There’s nothing like a trip to the French countryside to ward off the winter blues. But if you’re low on annual leave, a visit to Youeni Provides’ petite soeur has a similar effect. You might even leave with change from a tenner.

Speaking of change, all members of the Youeni family revel in it. If you’ve visited the Darlinghurst outpost more than once you’ll remember the rotating menu of seasonal local produce. Or maybe you won’t — if the peach and poached chicken salad that infiltrated your dreams comes accompanied by different greens upon second visit, it’ll taste so garden-fresh you’ll barely notice.

Changes at the Hill Street store include an entirely outdoor seating area, giving you the option of either devouring your Croque Monsieur from a sheltered wooden balcony or sharing bench and banter at the communal table. There’s also a license in the works for when the evenings start to get long again.

Things that remain the same are the quality of the house-made coffee and fresh-baked pastries, and the aesthetic appeal of those charming baristas. Change is good, but a little familiarity isn’t always unwelcome.
