Upcycle, Re-Purpose, Find Pre-Loved on The Garage Sale Trail

Seeking some tools or crafty bits and pieces? A cool cruiser bike or new indoor plant? Or perhaps you just want to meet thy neighbour?

Whatever the need, mark Saturday October 26th in your diary, the day the Garage Sale Trail returns for its third year.

The community-inspired event entices all in your hood to come together and host events to promote re-use and re-distribute unwanted goods likely destined for landfill.

Not your average street affair, this year across Australia around 300 000 sellers will set up home shop and show their bric-a-brac and pre-loved wares. Previously, someone sold their apartment and there was even a couple of Swedish flatmates that set up a roller disco alongside their sale. Here’s some of what you can expect later this month:

In Sydney, stylist extraordinare Mr. Jason Grant will be holding a special sale on the day, located at Hyde Park Barracks. Coordinated by Sydney Living Museums it’ll be stocked with designer goodies and no-longer-needed props. Visit Paramount House in Surry Hills and shop at their pop-up market curated by The Thousands, drop by 107 Projects in Redfern and book in for a free furniture upholstery or upcycling workshop. Make wonderful things out of recycled cardboard at Work-Shop in Chippendale or see the Trail on two-wheels on the Garage Sale Bike Trail.

In Melbourne, find 40 stands full of vintage treasures at the Lost & Found Market. At the Revolution Project sale trawl through fabulous pre-loved designer women’s clothing and brand new shoes. Step back in time with Dames of Distinction or join a bunch of crafty Fitzroy ladies as they stage a music-sausage sizzle-bake-sale full of pre-loved clothes, shoes, vintage, records, books, succulents and briccka-brack.

Enjoy your day discovering second chances.
