Like Crazy

To win one of five double passes to see Like Crazy email info@test.dailyaddict.com.au and tell us “what do you like, like crazy, and why?”. Comp closes 4 March 2012 , 11pm.

You’ve probably been taught that the two certainties in life are death and taxes.

But here are two truths just as assured: Your first love is as thrilling and blissful as it is devastating, and the US Consulate doesn’t take overstaying your visa lightly.

It’s these last two that are driven home by Sundance winner Like Crazy. Centering on a young couple coming to terms with whether their love can survive long-distance, it’s a long way from leads Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones’ characters in Star Trek and Chalet Girl.

It’s also pretty far removed from Drake Doremus’ last flick, the cheap indie road movie Douchebag. But it’s precisely this lack of star power, and Doremus’ own youthful standpoint, that makes Like Crazy so hauntingly honest. At times uncomfortably so, certain scenes even verge on the voyeuristic.

Though if you can look away, you’ll be one of the few.

Fresh, spontaneous and a touch nostalgic — if you’ve ever attempted long-distance yourself — you’ll find yourself liking Like Crazy like crazy.
