Stay Awhile at Arbory Bar & Eatery

Slow down and stay awhile. That’s the motto at Arbory Bar & Eatery and we’re all for it. Not that it’s going to be too hard once you sit yourself down and take in that Yarra riverside views of the city that most restaurants can only dream of. Found in the unused Sandridge train line, the new eatery is located between Platform 11 at Flinders Street and the Yarra River. Opening from 7.30am until late every day and offering an all day menu, staying a while isn’t going to be hard at all.

An all-day menu is one of our favourites. Time is of little consequence. The day is your oyster. Thanks to Executive Chef Nick Bennett (Trocadero, Cecconi’s) and chef Michael Fox (2012 Young Chef of the Year) you can start the day at Arbory with seasonal fruits, berry compote, ricotta, toasted almonds, and chia seeds, or a smoked mozzarella and bacon toastie served with fried egg and tomato relish.

As the day progresses – long into the night – burgers come in the form of a double cheeseburger with bacon and pickles, or the crumbed mushroom and haloumi burger both with crinkle cut chips. For something less burger-like steak tartare is served with cheese, toast, and béarnaise, hummus is served with fried chickpeas and caramelised garlic bread, and spaghetti is served with prawns, clams, chilli, and black bean pangrattato.

The wine list is curated by Raul Moreno Yague and features a lot of locally produced wines, while the bar is craft beer focused pouring Mornington Peninsula Pale Ale, Golden Axe Cider, and Brooklyn Lager.

The unique space has been designed by architects Jackson Clements Burrows & Associates and utilises a self-contained polycarbonate container, LED lights for a perfectly warm nighttime glow, and locally sourced furniture including the beautiful Jardan. While the space is mainly outdoors, there are eight custom made umbrellas to keep the space dry in the cool months and shady in the warmer ones.

We’re planning to stay a while. Are you?
