Blocks, lollipops, truffles, clusters, speckled, sea salt flaked, caramel coated, ganache-filled – the new Koko Black chocolate shop in the Strand Arcade is a little like a giant candy shop for the big kids.
The floor to ceiling mini shelves are a little Ollivander’s Wand Shop a la Harry Potter – we have no idea how the staff keep track of what’s where but they move around pulling open gold handled drawers to reveal almost too many sweet treats to handle.
The 37 different flavours come straight from Koko Black’s “Creative Centre”, where the chocolatiers whip up Wonka-esque concoctions. For grown-ups. Think Single Malt Whiskey Liquors, made on Melbourne’s Bakery Hill single malt, an Aurelia Champagne Truffle infused with Marc de Champagne or how about salted cashew nut brittle chocolate bars?
If you’re on a health kick, Koko Black’s Dominican Republic 100% is made from Trinitario cocoa beans – not for the faint hearted. The premium single origin blocks come in 40g sizes, it’s about quality not quantity and that’s just enough to be a healthy sugar hit. See, chocolate really is good for you.
Koko Black is also committed to sourcing local when possible – from the Victorian walnuts to the Tasmanian leatherwood honey.
The Strand store is the first in NSW and it has you covered – once you’ve checked out everything on the ground floor, head downstairs to the cute Salon Lounge. Cakes, coffee, dessert degustation, all perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up.
