If you thought Po’boy was the latest addition to the Teletubbies, you’re close. Both have fanatical fans on a global scale but prepare yourself … Po’boy mania is coming. So do you like your boy ‘dressed’ or ‘nuttin on it’?
Cardiologists will shake with fear, but this new kid on the block is bang on trend, tackling a risky end of chowtown in the Cross with its schmick fit out, soft curves, caramel sofas, Sinatra tunes and lighting so soft you won’t need a fake tan.
Your taste buds will tell you it’s Louisiana, but the scene is a laid back luxe. A Southerner will preach that po’boys (poor boy – sandwich) is all about the sub bread, it’s gotta be French style with a slight crust. The soft shell crab with lime mayo nails it; it’s a posh take on fried catfish praise the lord! Chicken wings are addictively tossed in an authentic US hot sauce. Short ribs are so tender you might need a net to catch the 14hr slow cooked meat whilst the gumbo has plenty of shrimp action. With a pastry chef poached from Hilton’s Glass, save room for peanut butter chocolate lava cake or DIY your own Sundae if you think you can do better (probably not…).
You’ve witnessed the battle of the wagyu burger, Vietnamese pork roll banh mi thit and the pulled pork bun but now is the time of the Po. Get in touch with your inner deep fat fryer, celebrate good ole American South and ‘relish’ this new prohibition era diner.
