Three Men and a Mule

The Cock n’ Bull Tavern, a popular celebrity hangout in the 1940’s, was nestled on sunset Boulevard, Hollywood. It was here, in wee hours, that the owner, ‘Jack’ Morgan, sat down with two prominent men in the alcohol industry: John Martin of Heublein, and Rudolph Kunett, president of the Pierre Smirnoff, to have a drink, nibble on a hors d’oeuvre and shove towards inventive genius.
 
With Vodka on their mind, they began to wonder what would happen if they combined a shot with Morgan’s own ginger beer and a squeeze of lime. The drinks were procured and much to their pleasure, tasted great. It didn’t take long before the next round was ordered and the cocktail nicknamed ‘Mule,’ for the kick that the ginger beer provided.

Dawn breaking, the three men stumbled out of the tavern, smiling and shaking hands in the early morning light. The world’s first Smirnoff Mule had just been invented and they knew that the vodka revolution was about to sweep the globe.
