You’re all for sourcing local goods. Our wool’s top-notch, our wine’s not half bad, and as long as it hasn’t been too long a day at work, you’ll always go the extra aisle for home-grown bell peppers.

But your inner Francophile’s a sucker for sumptuous French silks. And there are some things, like whirlwind romance and cream-stuffed carbs, that Italians just do better. Leather is one of them.

So get ready to be wooed by emerging designer Thomas Hulston. Taking local inspirations (his new-season showpiece is a sandstone print of a photograph he took on the Instagram-friendly Bondi to Bronte walk) and rendering them only in luxe textiles from Italy and Marseilles. Forget the Valencia filter – this is possibly the most flattering makeover the local landscape’s ever had.

And you no longer have to hop over to the Côte d’Azur to swathe yourself in his relaxed modernity. Hulston’s 21 piece spring summer 2013/14 collection is shopable online and the next-gen designer is preceding the launch of his French flagship with a store in Sydney’s very own Paddington.

It’s a bona fide cross-Hemisphere love story.
