sage and clare

In the age of warehouse-chic showrooms and follow-the-arrow floors, shopping nomadically isn’t always an option.

But it pays to travel the road not taken. At least, not by 4WD strollers. And therein lies the premise of sage and clare, a colourful Indian bazaar of handmade treasures located conveniently inside your web browser.

Chris and Phoebe ‘Clare’ Bell as the brains and styling (and Phoebe’s sister Jemma ‘sage’ heading up the one-woman design team), sage and clare is the result of a jaunt through India and a self-funded leap of faith.

You’ll have to use a little imagination to get the same full-blown sensory explosion, but the essence is there. Bohemian linens block-printed by hand, billowy-luxe robes, rustic armoires, handwoven Aztec dhurries, and multi-functional mosaic vases.

But sage and clare aren’t just curatorially gifted wanderlusts. With Phoebe a former stylist for Country Road, and Jemma moonlighting as a design consultant for Topshop and Miss Selfridge, they’re also on hand to help you fuse the heady vibes of India with your own existing fit-out.

If only traveling with your loved ones was always this successful.
