The Markets For All You Rock ‘n’ Rollers

Cats-eye sunnies, lived-in leather, and swinging summer dresses. The hottest ticket on Sydney’s market calendar sees your loot, and raises you: rollicking live bands, swing dancing lessons, and slick retro makeovers.

You already shop the coolest retro wares, but the Rock ‘n’ Roll & Alternative Markets – new addition to the Sydney Fringe family — are a full-throttle time warp back to when music was loud and hair was high.

Rummage your way through three levels and two courtyards brimming with throwback steeze. Aside from more greaser jackets and headscarves than you could poke a fag holder at there’s vinyl records, cult DVDs, tattoo art, and all things tiki. Keep your spirits high and stomach full at one of the bars and international food stalls and gimlet-slinging bars that are polka-dotted around.

On the music lineup is modern rockabilly and roots combo Pat Capocci, tumultuous five-piece foot-stompers Twin Beasts, danceable doo-wop courtesy of The Drey Rollan Band, intoxicating genre-melter That Red Head, plus a solid line-up of local vinyl-spinners.

Your vege out haul can wait another weekend – this Sunday’s pure rock ‘n’ roll.
