Strings of suspense for MIFF
There are some films that will forever be associated with their music; the threatening sounds of Jaws, the catchy tunes from Grease and the haunting melodies from The Virgin Suicides.
So its fitting really, that Alfred Hitchcock’s classic horror masterpiece “Psycho” (now celebrating its 50th film anniversary) gets the royal treatment during the Melbourne Film Festival this July with a specially assembled all-strings Bates Motel Orchestra led by Concert Master Robert John and conducted by Nicholas Buc.
The spine tingling score created for the film by award winning composer Bernard Hermann was an all strings piece to play up the drama, horror and tension to help the audience really “feel” the film rather than just watch it.
Held at the Regent theatre, this will be a once in lifetime experience that will no doubt have you checking under your bed when you get home so consider yourself warned: scaredy cats need not apply.
