My, my, Myer looks chic

Department store shopping can either excite and delight (hello Selfridges, Galleries La Fayette and Harvey Nichols) or make you cringe and shudder.

Myer’s Bourke Street flagship store is steeped in history and was for many years ‘the’ department store to shop for anything and everything and the actual experience itself was a quintessential Melbourne must visit.

In recent years, the cache has certainly rubbed off. So much that the refurbishment has heavy expectations to meet. But if the shopping experience on Level 1 and 2 is a sample of the future delights once the whole store is launched, you are in for a real treat.

Levels 1 and 2 are the new home to the Womenswear and Accessories departments; more than 80 shoe brands, 50 handbag brands and over 150 apparel brands ranging from high end internationals (RM by Roland Mouret, Vionnet, Givenchy and Balmain) to Australian designers (Maticevski, Aurelio Costarella, Nicola Finetti and Arabella Ramsay) and more affordable ranges.

The interior décor is lush, spacious, easy to browse with boutique lighting and large, comfortable change rooms. There’s a private shopping suite for in-house stylists and personal shoppers to work their magic and you can enjoy fine wine and delicate matched food in the divine Champagne Bar called The Salon by Louis Roederer (run by well-known Melbourne Food Identity, Andrew Blake).
