DoubleTree by Hilton – Flinders Street is no ordinary Hilton. Yes, it has all the swanky mod cons and the serious service you’d expect of the brand, but Melbourne’s DoubleTree also has some serious cool cred. We’re not just talking about the fact that every guest gets a warm chocolate chip cookie when they check in.
First off, there’s the exterior. It’s oh so Melbourne – think earthy and hidden. Walk inside and you’re greeted with warm tones and botanical influences. Second, it now has a brand new floor of rooms. The owner’s private penthouse on level 14 has been converted into seven new rooms. There are exposed beam ceilings, decadent velvet desk chairs, custom made lighting, French washed walls and some of the best views around town. Our pick are the loft suites, with views straight out to Federation Square.
Third, it isn’t afraid to have a bit of fun. Last month we checked in to check out the ‘Mystic Chamber’, a special room curated around the otherworldly. This was the fourth ‘curated’ (aka seriously well themed) room the hotel has hosted, and this time it was a little bit Harry Potter, a little fortune teller abode. And it worked. Alongside the signature Doubletree Chocolate Chip Cookie, guests received a specialty cocktail on arrival – Flinders Quarter Aurora, where you mix your own ‘potion’. Then there was the decadent mystery dessert – The Fortune Teller’s Fantasy. A gorgeous rose-gold chocolate orb surrounded by a raspberry crumb, cracked open to reveal a delicate divine mousse inside.
Ornate golden clocks, vintage portraits of apothecaries, leather-bound books and copper sculptures are just a few of the treasures the hotel used to deck out its Mystic Chamber. Let’s not forget your very own future-telling crystal ball!
