Lab-Gear

Scenario A: You’re an urban warrior, an out-and-about type with ‘can do’ all cool weather convictions.

Scenario B: Tour de France has you reminded you (again) that this is the year you’ll dust off the bike and start cycling. But as the cold weather sets in you convince yourself it’s too brisk outside and more to the point: you’re not a fan of Lycra.

Whichever of the above is applicable, you’ll need to know about Lab-Gear.

The brainchild of Gerard Thomas, artist, designer and cyclist, Lab-Gear was born in 2001 out of a desire for riding kit that was not only functional, but looked mighty good at the same time.

Designed for people who value the provenance of their clothing, Lab-Gear’s mainly merino-based ‘urban wear’ also offer a bespoke service, known as Design Meccanica. A made-to-order process where you can choose your item from concept to design starting with a selection of your material and thread colour. Customise your own long-sleeve merino crew, or add your own stamp to the 12.5 ounce Garrison denim flak jeans. The kit you’re creating really is your own.

Feel good about it too, as local businesses get a leg up, with each item handmade by Sydney based tailors and seamstresses.

Shift your threads up a gear.
