There’s no point being in denial anymore, winter is well and truly here. But one of the best things about cooler weather is the change in fashion. The big coats come out, the warming knits and layers, and let’s not forget the killer boots.

We chatted to Aussie girl and Target Australia’s newest ambassador Jessica Mauboy about her style, her tips, and what she can’t get enough of this winter, from everyday to red carpet glam.

Describe your style in three words.

Chic, minimal but feminine and fun (oh no – that’s four!)

Do you love to follow the trends or does your style tend to favour the classics?

I absolutely love my classic styles but also love to add one or two trend pieces to make my outfit pop.

How has your style evolved over the years?

My style has definitely evolved as I have grown up. I am feeling more confident in expressing myself through my clothes and I love having fun with my outfits – mixing high-street fashion with designer pieces. I don’t take it too seriously.

Who are your style icons?

I love JLO’s bold style choices – she totally kills it performing and on the red carpet.

What’s the best fashion advice you’ve ever been given?

It’s all about confidence – in order to gain it, you need to feel great in what you are wearing.

What style mantra do you live by?

Take risks but have fun.

What are some of your top fashion tips?

Dress for you – no one else. And heels in every shape, style, and colour (I am a shoe girl!)

What are your winter wardrobe essentials?

A great trench or oversized coat.

What are winter’s top fashion trends?

Lace up heels, leather jacket, black skinny jeans and a trench coat

What’s your go-to, fail-safe outfit?

Skinny jeans, basic tee, leather jacket, and a great pair of heels!

What’s one piece you can’t live without in your wardrobe?

My skinny black Target jeans – I have four pairs on rotation and it still isn’t enough!

What is your favourite red carpet outfit you’ve ever worn?

One of the perks of my job is that I have the opportunity to wear so many incredible designers! I have worn so many amazing outfits – last year at Eurovision I wore an amazing gold Toni Maticevski floor-length dress – it was a performance that I will never forget!
