Surry Hills freezes over

Once, twice, three times’ a charm for the Sicilian gelati gods at Gelato Messina.

Throwing open doors at their third location in Surry Hills – first came Darlinghurst and then a second outpost at The Star – you can expect the same sub-zero fantasticalness and knockout flavour combos at the new Crown Street site.

Where the words “pre-made”, “artificial” and “preservative” are sacrilegious, and “ugly balls”, “nut job”, “Hawaiian nights” are part of everyday vocabulary, Gelato Messina is no bull-scoop. It’s the real deal.

Where house made vanilla brioche is mixed through cinnamon and sultana custard gelato (Bread & Butter Puddin’) and pistachio rocky road is thrown in to white chocolate and rosewater gelato (Pistachio Rocky Road). Where bacon and banana cookies meet peanut butter gelato (Piggy in a Biscuit) in a heavenly assembly of salty and sweet. Where imagination is the only limitation, the flavours are quirky and the names are bonkers.

Get yourself to Crown Street and look for crowds of people clutching tiny spoons and tubs of Gelato Messina goodness.
