Brunch & Co: Alexandria’s New Healthy Kid

Good news people. You no longer have to go all the way to Bondi for a killer acai bowl! Brunch & Co is the new kid on the new “cool” block in Alexandria.

Away from the crowds of The Grounds of Alexandria and the cramped hole in the wall cafes of Erskineville, this bright and airy cafe is just up from Fratelli Fresh and right next door to a Henleys Wholefoods (also new).

Like Fratelli Fresh, the focus is on light, fresh dishes. Yes there’s gigantic cronuts (we are still in the Inner West), cookies and a good selection of cakes but there’s also plenty of healthy options.

You can’t go past the dinner-sized acai bowl, which is a pretty layered affair of chia seeds, goji berries, banana, strawberries, coconut and crunchy granola. Or if you’ve been to the gym, check out the blackboard of protein shakes. LA Combat – avocado, banana, tahini, almond milk, protein powder and a shot of coffee if you’re in need of an extra hit – sounds right up our alley, but we’re tempted by Fat Boy Slim and Cool Runnings just because of the names… There are normal smoothies on the blackboard too if you’re more mainstream.

Foodwise, there’s all your favourite café favourites but why not try one of the Greek dishes for something different. Standouts are the spinach and feta spanakopita (say that fast five times) or a salmon bruschetta dotted with bright radish slices and feta.
