Pas De Deux

Ballet. Fashion. The union is obvious. Both have beauty at their core. Both are about movement and style. Both inspire passion and grace.

So, little wonder then, that the National Gallery of Victoria has teamed up with The Australian Ballet to open Ballet & Fashion.

An exhibition all about the creative marriage of dance and design, expect more than 20 works from the past three decades; a slice of Australian cultural history with a dash of the international’s best offerings thrown into the local mix. Giles Deacon. Collette Dinnigan. Akira Isogawa. Valentino. Christian Lacroix. Richard Nylon. Aston Pearson. Ralph Rucci. Viktor&Rolf, Rei Kawakubo. Vanessa Leyonhjelm. Swoon.

Ballet & Fashion reminds us all of the dynamic association that tests the quality of design (all that rough-and-tumble stretching…those leaps) and showcases the artful grace of the impossibly athletic dancer’s physique.

It’s just one of the treasures kicking off NGV Summer – an exciting program of exhibitions and events that are all about participating in the life and vibrancy of our special city.

Ballet & Fashion will be on display at NGV International, St Kilda Road
3 November 2012 to 19 May 2013
Open Wed–Mon, 10am–5pm. Free entry
