The weather is getting cooler and cooler. But our desire to eat, drink, and explore our way around Melbourne isn’t dwindling. At all. So instead of staying home with take away and the heaters on full blast, take your pick from our list favourite places to head when it’s cold outside.

Boilermaker House

From the team at Eau de Vie, Boilermaker is the new home of whisky and beer on Lonsdale Street in the city. Peninsula Hot Springs

Swimming or lazily hanging in a spa isn’t usually what you think of when you think of things to do in winter, but the Peninsula Hot Springs change that. Found down on the Mornington Peninsula the hot springs are the perfect place to warm the body. You can also get massages and facials while you’re there, or take a drive to a few of the local wineries.

Milk the Cow

There’s nothing quite like a plate of cheese when the weather is cold. And if that doesn’t entice you enough, you can have your cheese flights with any alcohol of choice from wine, to beer, to cider, to sake, to sparkling wine, to fortified wine, to whisky. There’s also decadent fondue pots, cocktails, and individual dishes like baked camembert.

Grace Darling Hotel

Winter wouldn’t be complete without a filling Sunday Roast. Right? One your grandmother would be proud of. Roasted meats, roasted vegies, and a good stiff drink. The Grace Darling Hotel on Smith Street in Collingwood is running a Sunday Roast all day each Sunday including prime cuts of meat roasted with seasonal veggies all served in a cast iron pot. The charming pub is worth the visit without the roast, so don’t be surprised if you end up spending the whole day there.
