Consistency in hospitality is hard to come by these days but not when you are experiencing a space by The Van Haandels.
Nestled within the renovated Hamer Hall, the hoarding is down and the lights are on. Trocadero is the latest addition to this family and with establishments such as Stokehouse, Comme and Mr Tulk amongst its siblings; this new descendant has high expectations.
The Van Haandel’s and Anthony Musarra are the drivers behind this brassiere style beauty, and are proud as punch. They let the surrounding artistic energy inspire their design so before you get to the menu it would be remiss not to make a must-see mention of the art installation.
Jun Inoue has an original style that can’t be mistaken. A blend of trail blazing graffiti and Tokyo street art combined with a free-flowing Zen aesthetic. His commissioned piece for Trocadero can only be described as breathtaking and sets the artistic bar on par with the food.
The artist in the kitchen is Nick Bennett (ex Cecconis) and has designed a European-influenced menu. Inspired by the revamp of Hamer Hall, Bennett is reinventing classic dishes. Expect a menu that reads like you’re strolling through a gastronomic gallery … Beetroot cooked in beeswax, walnut, asiago and honeycomb; nettle veloute, potato, egg and brioche; baked garfish ‘pie’, herbs, parmesan, fennel escabeche; and oxtail bourguignon with Paris mash are just a sample of the mini masterpieces Bennett is laying on the tables.
A stone’s throw to Rod Laver, the MCG and the CBD, Trocadero will be top of mind for pre or post theatre bites or football and concert tipples.
Treat yourself to an all-round art fuelled experience at Trocadero.
