Swing Dancing at The Toff in Town
Between our obsessions with musicals (Glee) and ladylike femininity (Mad Men) we are adopting trends and past times from eras gone by like never before. Our prediction: Swing Dancing is next.

Gaining popularity in the jazz age of the 20’s and 30’s, swing dancing also has a strong African American heritage and was considered the street dance of the 30’s much like break dancing and krumping has also risen from the streets.

Swing Patrol is taught by Tessa Plueckhahn and Xaver Shay in a casual pay-as-you-go basis and they are all about encouraging people of any age, background or culture to come along and learn. Everyone moves around the room, changes partners, mingles and dances away.

Held at The Toff in Town, those who come along are genuinely curious about the vintage culture, jazz music and like to try something new. If your co-ordination skills are a bit rusty, don’t fret because street dances and Swing dancing is all about improvisation, energy and encouraging dancers to adapt their own style to the formal steps.
 
Bring a bit of that “Singing in the rain” style to your repertoire, put your dancing shoes on and hop, skip and jump to The Toff.
