Sydney’s stakes in late night supper clubs have improved yet again, with the launch of Gardel’s Bar in Surry Hills.
Adding more vintage gold to the Argentinean asador splendour that is Porteño, this plush digs sits above the restaurant: a combination of mood-lit tables, killer cocktails and cracking bar food, served late into the night.
Secure a prized seat at the bar and watch the experts at work, captained by boozehound Simon McGoram (a man who understands more than a thing or two about an expertly crafted cocktail), or retire to a swanky booth with the posse. Whichever you choose, make sure you work your way through the impressive menu of pulled pork sliders, smoked kingfish tartare and more, by that most dynamic of chef duos, Ben Millgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz.
It’s not all just about sitting pretty though; those with a competitive streak can take it out on the original 1930’s foosball (or ‘metagol’ in Argentinean) tables, and keep your ear on the ground for secret gigs by the heady likes of Justin Townes Earl.
Ladies, perfect those pin curls, gentlemen, shine those shoes: Gardel’s ushers in a welcome return to an era of dressing to impress, and food and cocktails that do all that and more.
