T-shirts. Their simplicity, arresting; their comfort, endless. Especially the one you’ve worn since high school, faded with mouse-bitten like holes and fraying edges, and has somehow escaped from being binned by your mother (then) and partner (now). They just don’t understand.
Another monumental win for the humble T-shirt happens today. Japanese label graniph opens its Sydney boutique store at The Galeries Victoria. You can find more than 50 stores in Japan, and this will be its first outside of Asia, bringing its philosophy of ‘accessible art’ to local devotees and those that are soon-to-be.
The label’s creative component comes from collaborations with a range of multi-platform designers across the globe, including photographers, illustrators and graphic artists, to create limited edition T-shirts.
A believer in connecting T-shirt artists with T-shirt wearers, graniph’s Australian design contingent will be represented in-store for the Sydney opening. You’ll find the talented Lyn & Tony, Dale Sattler, Jeremyville, Nadia Hunt, Beci Orpin, Luca Ionescu and Simon Massey di Valazza.
Nice price too. The tees come with a non-designer tag of $40 a T-shirt or two for $70. There will also be 60 super-limited edition Sydney-only graniph T-shirts made especially for today. If history repeats they’ll likely go in a matter of hours (don’t say we didn’t warn you).
Take comfort in knowing that more than 150 designs are in store and a new line is released every week. Maybe now’s the time to upgrade your beloved Tee?
