Imagine a drive-in cinema with bikes instead of cars. Fixies instead of Falcons. Where you go tandem, not shotgun.
Turns out the peeps at Magnificent Revolution (cool name, huh) have imagined just that. They’re transforming Taylor Square into a free outdoor Cycle In Cinema screening short cult films for three nights this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
But it’s not just a new take on an old faithful, they’ve put a spin on it. All the electricity for the screenings will be generated from audience pedal power. And you can be part of it.
So how does it work? You arrive on two wheels, not four. And you either a) pull up a patch of Taylor Square pavement and enjoy the free flicks, or b) if you’re not tired from the commute you can plug your bike into the generator and take turns riding to power the projector.
If you’re concerned about your stamina, don’t worry, you just ring your bell when you need a break.
In return for your efforts, the audience will be treated to a specially curated short film program including cult flicks like Brokeback Mountain Bikes, Pizza Shop Dance and Plastic Bag.
All the fun of a drive-in but with padded-bum pants.
