Statement 1: A favourite but you can’t get away with wearing it again.
Statement 2: You got caught up in ‘shopping frenzy’ (a state of buying, knowing that you don’t really need it and are compelled to buy anyway – happens to the best of us, we know).
Statement 3: The intent was to drop an unrealistic dress size, and haven’t.
If any of these statements apply to a recent fashion acquisition, you’ll really like Swap My Style.
Innovative, environmentally and budget friendly, this fashion event is centred around swapping fashion items no longer worn for treasured finds straight out of somebody else’s closet.
Swapping clothes with best friends and siblings is nothing new; you can now do it en masse with 150 other women, of all shapes and sizes, with all kinds of eclectic tastes. Start with canapés on arrival, move on to tips from an international fashion stylist and make-up artists in the pamper lounge, and have $5 glasses of Champagne all night.
You bring up to five new or pre-worn fashion items for swapping. For each item you bring, be it clothing, shoes, handbags or accessories, you’ll receive a token (varying price brackets from $50 – $200+) that you can then use to “pay” for new threads of similar value.
Shaughla Ahmad, founder of the event has one rule of thumb – if you’re not wearing it, but you think one of your girlfriends might – then bring it along. Labels highly sought after at the first Swap My Style event included Carla Zampatti, Scanlan & Theodore, Zara, Cohen & Sabine, Allanah Hill, Gucci, Guess, Hussy, Third Millennium and more.
Very clever indeed.
