You know that feeling when you’re out shopping, having a great time re-inventing your wardrobe one purchase at a time and suddenly… hunger sets in. Do you a) call it a day and head home for a ham sandwich? b) Resort to a plate of regret-it-later Chinese food in the food court? Or c) Actually have a decent feed in an uber trendy restaurant/café/bar right in the shopping centre? Yep, this was a test and duh, obviously the answer is ‘c’. You put the shopping spree on hold and head to Bondi Harvest.
Tucked inside Westfield Bondi Junction and on the first floor of The Eastern, Bondi Harvest is exactly what Bondi natives are after. The produce is local and are the heroes in each dish, and the focus is on eating healthy. It doesn’t take a genius to realise this place is going to be a huge hit. And then some. The wrap-around table also pays homeage to the Bondi way of getting to know your neighbours.
The two Bondi locals behind Bondi Harvest are Guy Turland and Mark Alston, who you probably already know from their TV series Bondi Harvest. Turland is the food guru, having worked at Est, Icebergs Dining Room & Bar and North Bondi Italian before he began operating Jo and Willy’s Depot in North Bondi and found his chi for working with nutritious flavour-packed foods. Then you have Alston who has a film-making and designing background; he looks after everything but the kitchen sink (and of course anything food and cooking related) for the Bondi Harvest brand.
The breakfast menu is the perfect way to start your day. Their savoury quinoa pancakes, apple & kombucha bircher, and the Juan Pablo (corn tortillas, spiced black beans, avo, sour cream, poached eggs, chutney and corn chips) will all have you feeling a million bucks. Lunch is all about superfood salads and delicious ciabattas then on the weekend bring along your friends and share too many tapas and indulge in a few glasses of wine.
Put down the shopping, you’ve had enough. It’s time for a fresh food hit.
