Forget burger joints, didn’t you know now it’s all about the jerk diner? The hot hot hot Jamaican spice marinade gives chicken one hell of a kick and it’s here in full flavour at Rosie Campbell’s.
This brand new Surry Hills Rum bar and diner comes from the team at our favourite late night venue, The Soda Factory.
Rosie Campbell’s is high on kitsch, with brightly coloured stools, zebra-print tabletops and electric blue booths, with a little bit of voodoo thrown in for good measure.
The food sticks to the theme –grilled jerk chicken comes in a sharing dish with coconut rice ‘n’ peas and sunshine slaw or keep it all to yourself with a jerk chicken burger. We say share the chicken and instead savour a soft shell crab burger all to yourself.
Like any good diner, there’s sweet potato chips, (Bahamian style) mac and cheese, and a killer cuban sandwich.
When you need to cool down the fire, master mixologist Mike Enright has the cocktail list covered. We always make a beeline for anything served in a coconut because, why the hell not? But there’s 35 different rums on the menu and more coming so don’t just stick to the coconuts. If you’re a little rummed-out, move on to Rosie’s very own Pale Ale and Golden Lager or check out some of the American craft beers on tap.
We’re also pretty excited about the fact Rosie Campbell’s is doing brunch on Fridays and weekends – hello sugar banana and spiced rum butter pancake stacks.
