Stay Warm with Pope Joan’s Winter Feast Series

Sometimes it feels like Melbourne rubs winter in our faces. One minute it’s summer and the next minute we’re reaching for our winter coats and a glass of wine by the fire. Pope Joan, Matt Wilkinson’s Brunswick East eatery, understands this struggle. In an attempt to give us something to look forward to they have created the Pope Joan Winter Feast Series. A beautiful excuse to eat warming foods on weeknights with that glass of wine.

Matt Wilkinson and night time head chef Vanessa Mateus have planned the series of set menus that will be running on weeknights from June all the way to September (yes that’s technically not winter, but we’re not complaining).

Each month will have a theme. In June they’ll be featuring incredible producers as a part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival’s ‘Put Victoria on Your Table’ campaign. Each week will feature a new three course meal. We’re loving the last week of June which sees green vegetable broth, wholewheat grain, followed by roasted Warialda Belted Galloway beef brisket, gravy, pickled onions, spuds, leaves, and roots, finishing with seasonal fruit clafoutis and custard. July will see a Christmas in July theme, August is all about sharing large pots of warming goodness like veal osso bucco, while September will be showcasing the humble pie. We can’t wait.

So we’ve mentioned having a glass of wine, just a few times already. Let’s mention it a little more. Pope Joan is teaming up with Fowlers Wine to bring optioned matched wines to the table. In beautiful paddock to plate style, Fowlers will be showcasing their Farm To Table wines. If that’s not enough, there will also be winter favourites like mulled wine, winter Pimms, and a rum hot toddy. Hello flushed cheeks.

For those who have favourites on the night time menu, don’t be sad, these special menus will run alongside the regular a la carte menus. Everyone leaves happy and well fed.
