Picnic with The Botanist, Kirribilli

After weeks of a rainy summer, lock downs and way too much delivery/take out, finally the sun is shining in Sydney again. So its time to dust off our picnic blankets, box of outdoor utensils and reclaim our rightful place as the outdoors nation.

Head Chef Scotty Mills from The Botanist has put his culinary creativity to work. We now have a new incentive to swap a girls lunch for a picnic by the water. We head over to the restaurant in Kirribilli, pick up our box of goodies then head a few minutes down the road to Milsons Park by the water. Its a hive of activity as boathouse members create a patchwork of colour on the green grass as the yacht sails are being pulled down after racing.

So lets get to the big reveal – what’s in the box????

Its as pretty as a picture! Slices of white sourdough are wrapped in paper with a Kindness Project envelope. We open it and says :

“Happiness is not a destination but a way of life” by Burton Hills.

This is a picnic for meat lovers with slices of mortadella and smoked wagyu, thoughtfully portioned so your dining partner doesn’t accidently scoff the lot! A generous block of delicious Botanist duck liver pate, sits along side Australia cheddar with accompanying butter. Onwards to Falwasser crackers, salad leaves, semi-dried Roma tomatoes, sweet and spicy pickles, apricot marmalade, golden raisin relish, four pieces of oh so sweet grilled peach along with sweet treats of grapes, chocolate strawberries and a selection of macarons.

Upgrade your experience and add a bottle of The Botanist’s Albert Fresco ‘Picnic Red’ for $65.

They say its for two-three people but quite frankly one hungry person could down the lot, so our advice is that two is the perfect number! So find a buddy, plan your spot and head out and enjoy our summer – Just let The Botanist do all the hard work for you.

About the author

Karen’s corporate job back in the UK had included entertaining clients in some of the best restaurants. This ultimately sparked a curiosity 'Just how do they do that?' (she confesses she was brought up on meat and vegetables, so this was all very exciting). Currently a Mr & Mrs Smith 'Tastemaker', she’s flashpacked around the world, learning about wine, experiencing different cultures and cuisines and had a two- year love affair with it all. Originally from England, she finally settled in Australia and continues to be besotted by food, wine and travel preferring to focus on the luxury end of town (thread count does matter).
