1. Moonlight Cinema
Add a picnic rug, a scenic backdrop of Melbourne’s skyline, some gourmet food, a giant screen showcasing a carefully edited mix of films and you have the iconic and quintessential outdoor cinema experience. So popular it’s caught on in all capital cities. You can even have a “gold grass” experience with reserved beanbag, entry and a glass of wine!
2. Coburg Drive-In
Channel your inner “Sandy and Danny” moment from Grease and get ‘stranded at the drive in” in Coburg. Run by Village cinemas, you can watch the latest flicks whilst snuggling or smooching your date. With space for 900 cars (over 3-4 screens) and a 50’s style diner selling hot dogs, pop corn and choc tops, it’s a must visit for piece of Americana.
3. St Kilda Openair Cinema
Overlooking the infamous St Kilda beach foreshore and with a fantastic line up of live music, the St Kilda Openair cinema experience brings you a fully licensed bar with food options to complete the vibe. The screen is giant retro TV in shape and you can watch the feature films in comfy deck chairs whilst watching the sunset over Port Phillip Bay. Picturesque? You bet.
4. Rooftop Cinema
We recently featured the new line up for Rooftop Cinema but we couldn’t mention Melbourne cinema experiences and not mention Rooftop Cinema. If you fancy a bit of an art house film, striped deck chairs, astro turf and a healthy dose of kitsch with a super hip crowd, go no further than Rooftop Cinema.
5. Cameo Cinemas
The hills are alive with films! If you fancy watching a flick whilst overlooking the gorgeous Dandenong Ranges, look no further than The Cameo Outdoor. Situated on the grassy slope behind the historic Cameo Cinema in Belgrade, its BYO picnic and seating if you want (although the mini hampers and deckchairs provided are perfect).
