What defines art exactly? What makes art ‘good’ or ‘bad’? Where does artistic expression start and end? These are all big questions and should you want to discover the answers, we suggest you visit the Melbourne Art Fair to find them.
This biennial fair features more than 80 selected national and international galleries, 900 artists and attracts up to 30,000 visitors. With paintings, sculpture, photography, installations and multi media work, this fair also involves lectures, VIP “art viewing” cocktail parties, emerging artists, collaborations and much more.
Our highlight suggestions include;
1. The light and the dark and the shades of grey – a free lecture presented by Bill Henson (yes, he of the controversial photography depicting teenagers) discussing the role of artistic impression.
2. Melbourne Art Fair Vernissage – the exclusive first preview cocktail party including curators, artists, collectors, business leaders, celebrities and international guests.
3. The Project Room – Campbelltown Arts Centre has commissioned six Sydney based artists (age 30 and under) to provide site-specific performances and artworks.
So if your idea of art needs a revamp, then this fair will do the honours’.
