If you remember puppets in an Ossie Ostrich kind of way, it’s time to get out more. This coming Saturday night, for starters.
Today’s puppetry is a whole lot darker. Noir style. Humphrey Bogart won’t be there but if he was he’d be right at home as the mysterious shadows cavort on tabletops, lampshades and window frames, hoodwinking dime store femme fatales – and all in the glow of hand-held torches.
There are 12 vignettes in all and the names behind it – including folk from Belgium and the US – are the who’s who of Puppetville, bringing their worldly experience to the always cool St ALi for one of those delightfully rare nights when philosophical musings mingle with good old fashioned buffoonery. Rod and glove puppets, shadow puppets and even more puppets. Puppets.
Oh, and there’s music from a live band featuring Derek Rowe and Ben Bennet. Fabulous food, wine and coffee add their own flavour of fun.
