Paddock to plate takes on a whole new meaning when your veggie crop is in the car park. The new Federation Square Pop-up Patch has taken up residence in the Fed Square parking lot with 140 plots leased to locals and restaurants.
Apparently it’s been a bountiful harvest for Taxi Dining Room’s plot – they’re hosting a special Pop Up Patch Dinner on July 2nd based around organic, seasonal fare from the garden.
OK, they might be getting some help with supply for this night. Little Veggie Patch Co is the team behind the car park patch and they’ll be helping out on the night by raiding a few other plots in the garden.
The five course menu is heavy on the veggies and vague on the details. Expect ‘Spring Onion’ for dish one, ‘Cabbage and Kale’ for dish two, and other combos like ‘Beetroots and Saltbush’ and ‘Lemon Verbena’ for dessert.
For all the non-vegetarians out there, don’t worry, meat will be on the menu. Executive Chef Tony Twitchett has had plenty of practice working the day’s harvest into the menu.
