The dinner scenes in Downton Abbey almost make us want to dust off the fine china and send out invitations. But do you know how many inches a plate must be from the cutlery? Where does one find a quail knife these days?
Beautiful table settings were once reserved for weddings and tea with the Queen. That was until NY’s Upper East Side ladies-who-lunch came up with the “Lenox Hill Neighborhood House Spring Gala”. The yearly event takes table setting to an entirely new level, all for charity of course.
The National Gallery of Victoria is hosting it’s own version, called “The Best of the Best”. St Kilda Town Hall will host 40 tables decorated by 40 of our best designers, in a one-day exhibition raising funds for new artworks.
Fleur McHarg from Fleur, Hecker Guthrie, Opera Australia, Fenton & Fenton, Space Furniture, even the team from Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio have snagged tables.
Don’t expect white napkins and rose petals – whimsical fairytales, Palm Springs pool parties and medieval feasts are just a few of the themes.
Seats at the Gala dinner on Thursday are the hottest tickets in town and are long gone, but on Friday the hall throws open its doors to the public and you can take a sneak peak.
