Ah, restaurant launches. It’s like being presented with a fabulous menu and being told someone has ordered for you anyway (a selection of the very best, of course).
There was no point in thanking Chester White for the invitation to his new place. He’s not actually real. The restaurant is and it’s the latest addition to an increasingly interesting Hawthorn scene.
The name references ex-Comme chef Simon Arkless’ passion for pig (it’s a particular breed, you see – like poodle is to dog) and the menu features all kinds of porcine delights, from chorizo to roasted free-range Otway pork belly with quince aioli, spiced apple and celeriac slaw.
Melbourne will have a summer again, one day, and when it comes the outdoor decking here will be a great place to eat your way through the Spanish/French-influenced offerings, washed down by a glass of something chilly.
But why wait until summer? Wonton-wrapped prawns, or smoked salmon pizza with fromage frais are just as enjoyable indoors and this space is vast enough to shelter foodies from the worst of a Melbourne winter.
