Meet Tapavino, Australia’s first Sherry Bar

Date site RSVP.com should be worried and Ryan’s Bar may see a distinct nose dive in profits … there’s now a new place to bag a banker!

Whilst the owner Frank Dilernia chose this spot due to its resemblance to the lane ways of Barcelona, you can’t dispute this is prime husband hunter territory situated in the golden triangle of Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, Nomura and more.

You can see the attraction of this new Tapas Bar. It’s a hottie which has all the ‘keeper’ qualities. Hatted kitchen team Renee and Anna (ex Buzo, Wine Library), wooden tables, banquet seating, metal bar stools for perching and an ingenious wall of wines which puts an end to the “I don’t like that wallpaper” conversations. It’s perfect date night material.

Do as the Spanish do and first focus on drink (then add food). The Duck liver pate is off this planet, made from fresh local ducks; it’s warmed gently in the oven so the clarified butter oozes upon a single cut. The bread is toasted and smoky. Other dishy delights include tostada with goats curd, broad bean, pea and mint; specials of lamb shoulder, fish pie (made from off cuts of sashimi grade tuna), black truffled tart with jamón and a morish dulce de leche tart.

If you love wine, this place will excite you, if you adore food it will inspire you and if you thought Sherry was for your auntie think again. It’s bringing ‘Sexy Back’ with Timberlake moves given its thirty options by the glass and flights from Fino to Oloroso. Just make sure you find someone to share it with.

About the author

Karen’s corporate job back in the UK had included entertaining clients in some of the best restaurants. This ultimately sparked a curiosity 'Just how do they do that?' (she confesses she was brought up on meat and vegetables, so this was all very exciting). Currently a Mr & Mrs Smith 'Tastemaker', she’s flashpacked around the world, learning about wine, experiencing different cultures and cuisines and had a two- year love affair with it all. Originally from England, she finally settled in Australia and continues to be besotted by food, wine and travel preferring to focus on the luxury end of town (thread count does matter).
