Jardan, in two words: beautiful furniture. Now we can also say accessible beautiful furniture, with their new flagship store opening on Church Street in Richmond, aka the furniture precinct. The Australian family-owned company run by Nick and Mike Garnham only had eight employees when they took it over in 1997 and now it has grown to over 100 staff. Yet every piece is still handmade to order here in Melbourne. Kudos to them.
Now let’s focus on this new store for a moment. The multi-level space is filled with their handcrafted furniture and homewares, and feels more like the home of a fancy rich person who has a serious amount of taste. Pieces are placed together to create rooms; ones you’ll want to buy all of it.
Being an extra large store, they naturally needed to fill it with a whole lot of new stuff. Here only, you’ll now find a curated collection of homewares from local and international artisans plus the 2014/15 collection designed by Jardan Lab and an extended range of Jardan’s lighting with shiny new brass pendants, chic glass pendants and turned timber lamps all designed and made in Melbourne.
Maybe you’ll walk away with a baby blue Glacier felt arm chair made from American oak, or maybe you’ll just go for a set of natural bowls that will make your morning muesli look way better than it does now. Either way you’ll feel pretty chuffed with yourself.
And to top things off, this year Jardan was certified carbon neutral from National Cardon Offset Standards (NCOS). We’re all-round impressed.
