Hawthorn Town Hall becomes an Arts Centre

Hawthorn Arts Centre 2 - ExteriorfeatureThe heritage building that was the Hawthorn Town Hall has undergone 18 months of redevelopments and is reopening at the Hawthorn Arts Centre. With a serious amount of space and a varied line up of exhibitions and performances, this development means good things for art enthusiasts.

The two main spaces in the centre are the Town Hall Gallery and the Arts centre. There is also The Emporium and a café, for weary art loving feet. Art is so much more agreeable on a snack-filled stomach.

The Town Hall Gallery, focusing on visual artworks and workshops will kick things off with a celebration of the last ten years including 65 pieces from 23 artists. Works will be from the likes of John Brack, Eric Thake, Robert Clinch, Helen Maudsley, Matthew Sleeth, Selina Ou, and Fred Williams.

The Arts Centre, which shows a range of performance art from theatre, to music to workshops will open with a range of events including a ‘Learn to Chalk’ workshop with pavement artist Jenny McCracken to a modern twist on the classic Cinderella. What’s not to love about the ugly stepsisters being called Kylie and Danni and Elvis coming to the big ball?
