If you think of hot chips and Mr Whippy when you think of food trucks, you need to join the 21st century. Food trucks are not something to be enjoyed just at weird carnivals and when it’s 44 degrees anymore. They are things to be sought out.
The latest venture to prove this point is the Hammer & Tong food truck, who has just hit the streets of Melbourne. A high-end food truck if ever we saw one.
Brought to us by the chef and manager duo at Hammer & Tong, Simon Ward and Dennis Ferreira (both ex-Vue de Monde) the food truck will be bringing some of the restaurant’s favourites to the people. Think the soft shell crab burger with Sriracha mayo, black sesame slaw and coriander, or the sweet and sour pork with maple Brussels sprouts, rice puffs, and fish sauce.
You can finish off your food truck dinner with something sweet. A Hammer & Tong lavender yoghurt custard with strawberry and pineapple gel, berries, lychee and basil cress, or a world cookie. Yep, candy bar flavoured or Nana’s pavlova flavoured.
The Hammer & Tong food truck will be seen at events, regular food truck spots, and even catering private parties. Hello garden party.
Word on the street is there are more Hammer & Tong food trucks on the cards. Watch this space.
