Green Park Dining Stands On Its Own

Sometimes going your separate ways amicably is the best thing for everyone. And that seems to be the vibe of things between Salvatore Malatesta and Jesse Gerner who have been partners in St Ali North for two years now. The pair have parted ways with Gerner buying Malatesta out and re-opening the space on Nicholson Street in Carlton North as Green Park Dining, an all day dining hall with influences from Spain.

The new team is a solid one. Joining Gerner is chef Howard Stamp (ex MoVida and Le Bon Ton), Jamie Munro-Lynch, (ex manager at Charlie Dumpling, also from Anada, Circa, and Cutler & Co), and James Madden the drinks guy from the City Wine Store. We feel like we’re all in very capable hands.

The space has been smartened up a bit with booths, a bar with plenty of booze, more wooden detailing, linen and wine glasses, and a lot of green throughout. Green walls, green leather booth seats, and green chairs. It’s rather refreshing. There will also be music every Sunday from 5pm-7pm.

The food and drinks menus are, as we said, an all day kind of affair. Start the day at 7am with a smoked brisket hash with spring onions, fried duck egg, and brown sauce with a side of a Bloody Mary? Too much? A Kenyan Nyeri filter coffee might go over a little better.

Lunch sees local asparagus served with aioli, fresh snapper served with stewed zucchini, garlic, and thyme, and a Thunder Road Full Steam Larger served next to a 2014 Jauma Pet Nat Chenin Blanc.

Dinner is a tight affair with two entrees, three mains, and four sweets options. But there is also a bar menu filled with tastes like the braised oxtail croquettes, mash, oysters, cab sav, and chives, and the fish ceviche, avocado, coriander, chipotle, jalapenos, and tortilla.

It really is one of those venues that caters to whatever time of day it is and whatever kind of mood you’re in.
