THROWING SHADE –
A slick pair of shades can amp any outfit up in a jiffy. Here are some of the best in the bizz this season to take you from shabby to chic in one swift motion. Bailey Nelson’s new range is equal parts edgy and sophisticated. A fresh approach towards combining acetate with steel, the Reverse Halo Collection contrasts polished acetate with an inner steel feature, resulting in frames that truly glow from within. Looking after your eyes never looked so good- especially coming into summer after long stints in lockdown. The range is designed to suit a diverse range of face shapes in fun colourways and classic tones and also comes in optical. If you are after a classic pair of sunnies that never go out of style and suits most face shapes? Then round style glasses are the pair for you. From Bob Dylan to The Beatles, to Harry Styles and the Hadid sisters – the round frame glasses are a sure fire bet to fit into any and all wardrobe. Want to look great and do something great for the environment and protect your eyes from the harsh Aussie UV’s? Arise Collective joined forces with WWF-Australia to help protect and conserve Australia’s marine wildlife. The result? A pair of fun, sustainable sunglasses made and one of the last commercial gill nets removed from the Northern Great Barrier Reef. Each pair of ReefCycle sunnies also features a super cute illustration of one of the marine animals that you’re helping to protect on the inner glasses temple. QUTE!
NON ‘BASIC BISSH’ BASICS –
Basically the trick to basics not looking basic, is relatively… ahem… you guessed it – basic. There’s a few key things to keep an eye out for and consider when embarking on your next shopping adventure. Look closely at the cut and make sure the style works to your body type (oversized with slim bottoms and more fitted if a fan of high waisted style bottoms) and colouring (e.g. ivory is more flattering sometimes than a stark white.) Be sure that the fabric is comfortable- think thin fabrics worked back with cosy knits for the in between months or thicker fabrics with linen shorts. And lastly, be sure that the item works back with items you already own and love for longevity. For example – a crisp roll sleeve white tee is perfect with any number of items from high waisted jeans, skirts, under a pair of overalls or knotted over a slip dress. Great staples everyone should have for the in-between seasons are a great white/ivory tee, cosy knit shorts and a staple silky camisole. The knit shorts add a nice texture worked back with an oversized button down shirt and a classic striped tee. The cami and tees can be dressed up with layered necklaces or a killer leather jacket at night and ripped denim and sneakers for the day. All of these basics work back with pre-loved key wardrobe staples but also add a little edge to any outfit no matter what your style. Throw on some SPF and fun shades by day (see above) or a slick of red lippy and boots by night to polish the look. Voilà!
BEACH TO BAR –
When we think swimwear, us Aussies know a good pair of swimwear needs to take us from beach to bar with ease, comfort and of course style. Try a block colour deep v detailed one piece with tailored high waisted shorts and sunkissed skin. Bonus – this fabric is recycled as part of the asos responsible edit lowering the impact of fashion on the environment. More of a bikini fan? A gold underwired bikini top with a floaty linen shirt and denim skirt is peak peekaboo-chic that will get you from Bondi to bar faster than you can say “summer lovin’”. Isla in Bloom swimwear are ideal to spend the day in the sun as well as work back beautifully with a fitted ribbed dress to grab a drink at a local watering hole. The timeless styles feature tie sides and adjustable straps to cater to the female form and help each woman bring out their inner feminine. Sustainability being a non-negotiable for Isla In Bloom, their collections are always small runs to reduce waste, using eco-friendly materials and production processes, right down to the packaging that is recycled and biodegradable. Mother Nature, we heart you!
BE BOLD –
2020 and the ‘bat kiss’ have thrown us many-a-curve ball however at the time of writing this there has been news that there were no new community transmissions in NSW *fingers tightly crossed*. With this in mind and hospitality venues open and welcoming the return of patrons, we hope the silly season still holds the same excitement and wonder. So this year, if not more than ever – we say be brave, be ballsy be BOLD. Having spent a huge chunk of our year in sweats, it’s time to slip into something a touch more fabulous. Easily achieved, the bold trend has been begging to run free ever since restrictions were put in place. Try some form of sexy animal print like a slinky leopard cami that can be dressed up or down day or night whilst still holding that me(w)ow factor. Too much OTT for you? Try a hint-of-print with a zebra clutch bag to make your outfit pop. Now if you want to turn the heat all the way up it’s all about sparkles. Although at times intimidating, worn with a little confidence sequins are 100% your festive friend. Whether daring with a hint of glittery-game in a cami or an all out glinting jumpsuit or blush pink shirt – these are sure to turn heads. Take a walk on the wild side and get into the seasonal swing of it all.
