LMFF Business Seminar
It’s pretty, it’s now and it’s frivolous too. But don’t be mistaken that it’s all light and love. Fashion is a serious business – a global goldmine of negotiation. How to succeed in the fashion world. Sharpening those stilettos may be a good start but grounding yourself in the logistical basics is sensible too.
The theme of this year’s series is Power To The People and comes packed with critical industry knowledge and tools to improve business performance.
Networking? Hell, yeah? Take notes for a career you’ve always wanted all stitched up.

Linda Jackson
You call yourself a fashion student? You’ll know the name of Linda Jackson. She’ the Melbourne-born designer who made her name in the 1970s – establishing Flamingo Park with Jenny Kee before launching her own Bush Couture label.
It’s her rare and early works on display here and for fashion-fiends it’s a great chacne to chart the evolution of creative thinking and implementation. From design to dress.

Von Follies by Dita Von Teese for Target Australia
Dita Von Teese plays retro sultry glamour girl to perfection but all that mimicry requires original inspiration. Meet the Ziegfeld Follies. Think high-class Vaudeville variety, back when the chorus girls dressed in feathers and satin and knew how to shake the room.
This world-first presentation of Ms Von Teese’s latest lingerie range, inspired by those golden times of pasties and shimmy, is a collaboration with Target Australia, combining vintage va-va-voom with new millennium sass.
The gal herself will strut the runway – showing Australian women her own take on sexy sophistication.

Thread Den Sewing
Damn, I wish I could sew. It’s a thought that has occupied many a peruse of a high-end fashion magazine, lamenting both my lack of thousands of dollars for that hand-beaded dress and the lack of skill that would enable me to DIY. Personally, I blame my mother. It’s her fault (her attachment to 1970s feminism and the shunning of all old-school domestic skills) I can’t sew.
It’s time for a new revolution. Time for today’s women to sit at their sewing machines with pride. A time for reclaiming the fashion world and putting ‘one-off’ in the hands of the people.
This could be the beginning. Thread Den classes impart all the important home-spun knowledge you never got from those career-hungry women in your past. Crochet, knitting, craft – it’s all here. Can’t fit a long course into your busy life? Weekend-long workshops to the rescue.

Hearts and Crafts
Fashion is more than just fancy clothes. It’s culture, language, film.
The iconic Hermès label presents this documentary, directed by Frédéric Laffont and Isabelle Dupuy-Chavanat.
It’s a love letter, if you like. A homage to the exquisite artisans of the many Hermès métiers – the men and women who bring the Parisian house’s objects to oh-so fashionable life.
Watch and wonder at the passion behind each and every item. If only real life could be so precisely beautiful.
