The countdown is on. It’s one of those potentially awkward nights. Oh, the pressure. Where to go…who to spend it with…what to wear? Spare a thought too on who to kiss as the 12 chimes ring in.
New Year’s Eve in Melbourne can take you from live theatre to the beating heart of anime-fandom and everything in between. Here’s a quick snapshot, on frivolous ways to welcome 2013.
Garden of EDEN
Anything with the word ‘complimentary’ in it might be a good place to start. So how about Melbourne’s Ultra-VIP party experience thanks to Johnny Walker® Gold Label Reserve™ and The West End at Crown.
It’s all about the pop-up party in the seductively named Garden of Eden. Skip the lines with priority admission to the Ultra-VIP party experience, snack on complimentary canapés at 10 PM, wash down a glass of house Cuvee to toast midnight on the terrace. Live entertainment sounds off at 10pm and Table Service is also available.
Bookings: To RSVP please call 9292 8344
Tickets: VIP Pre-sale admission tickets are available now for $75 per person – limited availability through www.ticketek.com.au
CosParty
Oh, how to explain CosParty? Think anime-loving fans and sci-fi geeks who intimately know a robust list of extra-terrestrial friends. Cute and fluffy or alien-like creepy – there will be costume-clad party-types galore, ready to compare high scores and cult programming. Raise your glass with Pikachu and Cloud Strife and come out of the gaming closet in style.
The Royal Melbourne Hotel is the venue – 629 Bourke Street, Melbourne – and tickets start at $50

War Horse
If you prefer your ring-a-ding-ding with theatrical flair, kick the night off with a show. War Horse has been a popular book and movie and now it’s one of the most talked about live stage shows of the musical world.
The New Year opening night package includes the rare chance to hang with the cast post-show – and on top of that honour, the balcony at the Arts Centre is a pretty good place to do that, enjoying the snap, crackle and pop of the city’s fireworks show.

Great Gatsby at the Silk Road
It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.
Celebrate 2013 by giving in to the fact that the roaring 1920s are back.
The era sparked quirky director Baz Luhrman to remake the famous F.Scott Fitzgerald story and in case the anticipation of the coming film is just too, too much, get your glad rags on and sample the elegant canapés, cocktails and class of this bygone era. Dress the part and prepare to be fabulous. It’s all happening at Silk Road, 425 Collins Street, Melbourne. To book your place in the Gatsby mansion, call 9614 4888.
