Arkwright & Co brewing now in Carlton

We are a city that loves our coffee – we’re good at it too – but sometimes you just want a nice cup of tea.

Well, the people at the newly opened Arkwright & Co have got your back. Bryce Ritchie and John Arvanities, known for their construction work with Seven Seeds, El Chino and Kumo Izakaya are the owners and builders behind this one. A textile warehouse owned by the Ritchie family for many years, has recently been turned into a teahouse and café, a la 1950’s style.

Back to the tea. Specialty teas like oolong green and a citris Earl grey will be served next to Seven Seeds coffee and a menu that nods to the British heritage of the venue – named after Sir Richard Arkwright, a British inventor and leader. Think cucumber and mascarpone sandwiches, toasted fig bread with mascarpone and honey, or a cheese and ham croissant. Your grandmother would be so proud. Almond croissants and thick shakes are not so British, but still as nice.

The cafe is currently selling Noisette bread to take away (Casalinga, sourdough, olive), but there are hushed words of an in-house bakery to come. There will also be DIY classes run in the rest of the building.

Kudos Arkwright, we like what you’re putting down.
