Polish up your hot rod and top up your hairspray stash – rockabilly has landed.
You want to get the look, the moves and the gang but don’t know where to start? Lucky you’ve got friends like us …
The look – Boogie Bop Dames
Pixie Roberts is the cutest damn pin-up girl this side of Texas. On top of her glam appearance, she has a knack for bringing the 1940’s and 1950’s to life with Victory rolls, ruby lips and false eyelashes. Whether you want to be a silver screen goddess or a burlesque babe, Pixie will make you look smoking hot and make sure there’s plenty of photographic evidence.
The moves – Limpin’ Jimmy and the Swingin’ Kitten
There are four key moves you need to learn if you are ever going to hold your own on the dance floor. They are: step, toe, spin and ‘cuddle’. Sounds easy enough, right? Wrong – it’s not. You need the help of Sydney’s two best rockabilly dance teachers to guide you through the dizzy spells, sweaty palms and unco attacks.
The gang – Black Cherry Club
Do not show up in civvies to this sub-cultural club night. If you aren’t going to curl, paint and preen, stay home. It’s safer there. The Black Cherry Club has claws but they’re perfectly manicured. Listen to punk, rock, rockabilly and retro tunes with your hoodlum mates.
