Here we highlight the fascinating, the quirky and the freshest of Aussie wine news.
Kings Of Prohibition
We can’t lie, we are suckers for edgy packaging, and the guys at Kings Of Prohibition take the cake. So much so, that they recently took home the silver medal award for ‘New design of a wine brand’ from the highly acclaimed 2020 Drinks International Wine Design Challenge awards in the UK. Fashioned from the roaring 20’s and times of prohibition (hence the name) the unique bottles are designed to mirror those from the bygone era of bootlegging and speakeasies. Bonus? They look extremely sexy on the wine rack. With their edgy shape and incredible illustrations it would be easy to judge them solely on their epic exterior. Yet happily they contain the goods too. The quality wine is from two great Australian winemaking regions – the Barossa and Hilltops. They are refined, opulent, and full of flavour. Long live the kings!

Handpicked Wines
Let me paint a little piccie for you. You forget that you have a mate coming over last min and have zero time to shop and nada in the fridge. Or you realise it’s your mother in law’s Birthday and *panic* you haven’t bought a thing. Awks. Never fear, Handpicked wines are here! Their premium wine and cheese box is perfect for any at-home special occasions or gifting.
So, whats in the box?
– 1 bottle of 95pt Collection Mornington Pinot Noir – Best Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir trophy at the Australian Pinot Noir Challenge – an elegant and refined wine with a textured savoury palate – would be insanely yummy with smoked meats and salty roasts.
– 1 bottle of 95pt Collection Mornington Chardonnay – This wine has layers of bright citrus and stones fruits with lively natural acidity (that dances on your tastebuds rather than that smack-in-the-face style). Fermentation and maturation in select French oak barrels adds texture and nutty flavours. Works back impeccably with the cheeses, the only worry is saying no to another glass (or bottle).
– Woombye Truffle Triple Cream Briee – in a word? Brie-utiful!
– L’Artisan Mountain Man – an intense cheese full of flavour that packs a punch.
– A box of Lavosh Crackers – This writers fav Aussie crackers!
The clincher? The team offers same day delivery within 25km of Sydney CBD when placed before 4pm. Handpicked – true blue heroes.

Taylors Wines
We recently discovered that Taylors and Taylor Made are from the same Taylors family owned company. Elated to research further we at DA picked what we feel are drinking the best from both right now (so you don’t have to!)
Chardonnay 2019 – Adelaide Hills – The barrel fermentation brings a delightful creaminess to the mid-palate of the chardonnay. We found the wine is beautifully balanced with well integrated oak acting in support of the fruit and the tight fresh acidity. Showcasing delicate white stone-fruit flavours along with a subtle brioche character, it finishes with enjoyable persistence. Chardon-haaaay we want some more!
Shiraz 2018 – Clare Valley This shiraz is medium to full-bodied with a fleshy mid-palate & supple tannin structure. The palate is plump & generous with ripe fruit characters of plum and blackberry. Mocha coffee and subtle spice from oak maturation balance the fruit flavours. Well balanced with good length, great texture and slightly fruity on the finish. It truly is scrumptious (and all that Shiraz) 😉

When it comes to food pairing – this ones a little bit fancy pants, and we simply had to share. The most mouthwater match made in heaven at the enigmatic EO is not to be missed. Ever tired 24 carat gold leaf covered steak and a bold red? In our recent review (HERE) we were lucky enough to pair the steak with a 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountadam Barossa SA and later a glass of the 2018 Malbec Tilia Mendoza AR. The result? Quite literally – dazzling. The steak coated in editable gold, paired with the potato truffle Paris mash and the bold personality filled reds? Easily eleventy out of ten.
