St Kilda Road is one of those rare boulevards that seem to welcome you into the city with its wide panoramic roads, arching plane trees and mix of heritage buildings, culture precincts and stunning botanical gardens.
So it’s no wonder, that it’s the location for the unique Art Series Hotels next installment; The Blackman. With such close proximity to the city, parks and southeastern suburbs, a stone’s thrown from the beach and galleries galore, The Blackman is in very good company.
With 207 rooms and suites and a selection offering private terraces and spas, The Blackman presents a boutique experience with all the modern comforts and exceptional facilities you would expect from the Art Series hotels. In the The Blackman Gym you’ll find a variety of get fit choices including personal training, yoga mats and free bottled water. There’s the option to hire the Signature Art Series Smart Cars or classic bicycles if cycling is more your style.
Using the historic Airlie Mansion as the foundation for the hotel, the artist du jour is Charles Blackman. Co-founder of the Melbourne Contemporary Art Society and one of seven artists responsible for the Antipodean Manifesto, Blackman is perhaps most well known for his Alice in Wonderland paintings inspired by Lewis Carroll’s book. His contribution to Australian Art has not gone unnoticed when he was awarded his OBE for services to art in 1997.
