We adore smashed avo, feta and sourdough for brunch like any good Aussie, but what if we challenged you to try something bolder than the same three colours and flavours on your plate come the weekend? Get your taste buds ready for an adventure at Bondi institution Sefa Kitchen.
Located diagonally opposite the Royal Bondi, Sefa Kitchen is a true hole in the wall hidden gem well known by locals for fresh, healthy and colourful food made with love by Sundar and the team.
And the good news is they’ve just launched a shared lunch menu focused on street food and cocktails. The lines out the door say it all, so we stopped in to see what all the fuss was about.
Lafay lunches are all about coming together around shared meal for good company and good conversation, so the hard work has already been done for you, you just need to pick your mains. At a bargain $19pp or $39pp with bottomless cocktails, this is the ultimate lazy weekend lunch and includes a great selection of African and Middle Eastern dips, breads, pickles and greens. Think beetroot labneh, carrot hummus and coriander chilli salsa . For mains choose from melt-in-the-mouth pulled lamb, shwarma chicken served on an almond hummus base, Tunisian fish, spiced slow cooked and caramelised eggplant and a punchy dukkah cauliflower. This exotic smorgasbord tastes as beautiful as it looks and despite the variety and intensity of flavours, it’s still light and healthy.
The cocktails and spritzes are perfect for warmer weather – The Aphrodite Myrtle features gin, lemon myrtle, cucumber and prosecco, or there’s the Zeus’ Lightening Spirit, a pretty concoction of lychee, mint, lemon and prosecco.
Kick your weekend lunches up a couple of notches with the exotic flavours of the Middle East at Sefa Kitchen. Impress your friends with this beloved Bondi gem serving up healthy street eats and bottomless cocktails.
