New Film Opening
Many films are based on love – hell, life without love is a life without living. Refreshingly this film is about love in all its forms: new love, secret love, denied love, long term love, erotic love and unexpected love but the best bit is each love story interwoven into this film is set in and about New York.
New York, I Love You is the second in the “Cities of love” films created by Emmanuel Benbihy with PARIS JE T’AIME being the first. The premise is that an eclectic group of filmmakers (Natalie Portman, Fatih Akin, Brett Ratner, Shekhar Kapur and Randy Balsmeyer) are given a central brief and go off to create their version of love in their city starring a melting pot of generational acting talent and the result? A kaleidoscope of ideas, plots and story telling – windows into the many souls that make up our world and the one thread that binds us all – love.
The cast reads like the Hollywood walk of fame including: Bradley Cooper, Andy Garcia, Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Natalie Portman, Orlando Bloom, Christina Ricci, Ethan Hawke, James Caan, Blake Lively, Drea de Matteo, Julie Christie, John Hurt, Shia LaBeouf, Chris Cooper and Robin Wright Penn to name a few.
In the words of Molly Meldrum, “Do yourself a favour” and go see this film, its heart-warming, gritty, re-assuring and thought provoking like a good film should be.
