The Squire’s Landing is Sydney’s newest Harbour hotspot

Tower roomA steak, a glass of red wine, and the same views as Quay for under $50? Yes. You read that right. We’re going to let you in on Sydney Harbour’s best kept secret. The Squire’s Landing took up residence at the northern end of the Overseas Passenger Terminal and has been serving up fab food with a side of five star views at a very, very good price.

2zvlSO-wWhat’s the catch? So far, we can’t see one. James Squire Craft Beers and Mantle Group Hospitality are behind The Squire’s Landing, which is one of the few spots where you can try the full range of James Squire beers. The venue is split into two halves – the brewhouse downstairs, serving smoked meats straight from the on site smoker that’s hard to miss, along with burgers, steaks, pizza and fish and chips. There’s an industrial chic beer garden down on the main forecourt where you can peer across at the Harbour Bridge. Think of it as the cool cousin to the Opera Bar, without the hordes of tourists. It’s reasonably priced, great for a Sunday afternoon or a casual after work drink.

But then there’s the upstairs restaurant. This is no tourist fodder. The fare is sophisticated and super fresh, the chefs staying true to the commitment of other James Squire venues – supporting local produce wherever possible. Start off with a few share dishes like wood fired local prawns and locally farmed coffee cured duck served with mini bite sized confit duck leg beignets. Steaks are reasonably priced at around the $45 mark, although mighty Tomahawk kicks things up a notch and isn’t for the faint hearted. Save this whopper for a special occasion or if you’re really, really hungry. There’s also a good selection of market seafood, a housemade gnocchi dish, pork, chicken – pretty much something for everyone. Executive Chef Deniz Coskun has the helm and it’s clear there’s a lot of passion in the kitchen – right down to the deconstructed banoffee pie served in a glass bowl , a little like a mini terrarium on your plate.

dzIbc0OAThe food certainly speaks for itself, but we also need to speak about that view again. Sitting on the corner edge of the building, the restaurant gets a vantage point of the Harbour that’s hard to beat. The microbrewery perched on the western corner looking out to the Rocks peaks our interest, but it’s the tables on the eastern corner that take the cake. Perched inside a glass-walled circular dining room, you can’t beat this view.
